JAMES GAA, AARON FALKENBERG, TJ MCLACHLAN
Visual Arts Alberta presents SURROUNDINGS by photogrphers James Gaa, Aaron Falkenberg, and TJ McLachlan.
James Gaa, Aaron Falkenberg, and TJ McLachlan explore their unique Surroundings though the camera lens. This exploration takes the viewer through urban and rural beauty. James Gaa’s work focuses on signs and images that are more or less accidental. Some are completely unplanned smudges made without design, producing an image that was not expected. Others are intentionally made, but produce an unintended image through age or through being altered by their surroundings. Aaron Falkenberg expresses a beauty that is neither pristine nature, nor the purposefulness of traditional human incursions, but rather the space between the two: the rural. Aaron’s photography can be construed as a means of displaying nature’s beauty as it exists alongside us. TJ McLachlan lives in a neighbourhood that is overlooked. This Edmonton community, now neglected, has a history that can be discovered during any short walk through it. A change has occurred that few people recognize, but the architecture bears witness to.
