Experimental Artist Residency in Calgary
WRECK CITY seeks RFQs (Requests for Qualifications) from artists, documentary filmmakers, and critical art writers interested in participating in an experimental artist residency in Calgary. Successful candidates will be willing to engage in collaborative, chaotic, immersive, and independently-motivated situations, and be available throughout the WRECK CITY Residency (June 22 – July 27, 2018) and intermittently during the Public Exhibition (July 28 – August 11, 2018). The location of the Residency is currently secret, but it is located in the Calgary neighbourhood of Marda Loop.
14 artists, collaborative teams, and/or collectives will be selected based on the integrity of their portfolios, availability, intentions, and relationship with DIY art spaces. Artists will receive a $2,000 honourarium and $1,000 for materials/expenses, onsite accommodations are available for out of town artists.
One documentary filmmaker will produce 2 short films – one 1-minute teaser film (to be released prior to the Exhibition’s Opening) and one documentary short chronicling the overall project, $3,000 honourarium.
A Writer-in-Residence will be asked to develop critical writing around the residency and exhibition, $750 honourarium.
