Terra Losa Community Association Ltd. 2023 Terra Losa Community Association Mural Project – Artist Call-Out
Terra Losa Community Association (TLCA) is accepting applications from artists or artistic teams for consideration in the creation of a mural on the concrete retaining wall behind the Westend Seniors’ Activity Centre (9629 – 176 St. NW, Edmonton) in the Frank and Etta Wild Park. The wall spans 108’ (feet) wide in 2 sections meeting at a corner, and height is between 5’10’’ and 4’8”. Photos of the site are attached. Our anticipated budget for the entire project is between $8,000.00 and $10,000.00.
TLCA is looking for an original artwork design that is site specific to the location. We suggest a colourful, cheerful nature mural displaying the birds, animals, plants and water of the area. Those include: chickadees, sparrows, red-winged blackbirds, great horned owls, Hungarian partridges, geese, mallards, rabbits, squirrels, coyotes, trees, flowers, marigolds, Alberta roses, cattails, and bullrushes.
Artists 18 years and older residing in the Edmonton Region are invited to submit an individual or collaborative artist application. Artist may submit up to three designs for this location. The proposed artwork should be original, site specific in its design, complimentary to the overall context of the surrounding area and made with durable, low maintenance materials that will withstand weather and other environmental elements, and finished with a coating to withstand graffiti.
Artist must submit a Resume, an Artist’s Statement, budget for the completed project, and maximum of 3 images of past work, if available.
Artist is responsible for all associated expenses related to design, fabrication, transportation and installation. Along with your budget, please include your anticipated length of time to complete the project.
Applications will be judged on artistic merit, capability, past work and perceived site enhancement. Final selection will be the decision and at the discretion of the TLCA Board. Particulars, subject to change if necessary:
- Submission Deadline Monday April 3, 2023 midnight
- Design selected Monday May 1, 2023
- Selected artist notified Tuesday May 2, 2023
- Outdoor mural installation to begin as soon as possible weather permitting, once notified of selection.
- Mural installation to be completed on or around August 30, 2023.
