The MIAIR Program is designed to serve artists at all stages of their career. Students and artists at all stages of their career are able to pursue their artistic investigations together in our spacious semi-private studios. The residency experience is one of cooperation and creativity. This collaborative spirit extends beyond the studio and spills over into the community in the form public events, sales, classes, and special events. Artists also bring their diverse cultural experiences, specialized technical abilities, educational backgrounds, and most importantly an endless variety of definitions of what a ceramic art practice can be.
Set against the dramatic cliffs of the South Saskatchewan River in Medicine Hat, Alberta, the 150 acre Historic Clay District was once home to some of Canada’s most important clay factories, including Medalta Potteries, Hycroft China, National Porcelain and Alberta Clay Products. Today, this history is being preserved with the unique Medalta Potteries National Historic Site, providing the setting for a living, working museum.
Medalta offers 5 main residency opportunities each year. In addition, they are able to accommodate a small number of special requirests for short-term residencies at certain times of the year. For more information please visit their website.
