St. Maur’s presentation explores various opportunities for visual artists to
work with artists in other fields: poetry, music, dance and theatre. St. Maur
will begin with a discussion of haiga, the Japanese art combining poetry
and visual images. Next, he will consider the opportunities and difficulties
of combining the spatial (painting, sculpture, photography) with the
temporal i.e music. Similar consideration will be given to dance and drama,
both of which combine the spatial with the temporal. The talk will address
the benefit to visual artists’ careers; where the practical advantages of
pairing with other artists working in related fields can lead to success and
the attainment of significant goals.
