As a part of the course, participating artists will design a public art project that will address specific needs and concerns of a community group or organization while incorporating community members in a participatory way. Utility Box Mentorship Program The City of Calgary Public Art Program is seeking up to 10 artists to participate in a six-week workshop series focused on the development and execution of temporary utility box artworks. This year’s program is focused on the community of Marlborough, and artists with strong connections to this community are encouraged to apply. The workshops will happen during evenings or weekend hours between June and August (dates to be determined). Each Artist Mentee will be compensated for utility box artwork produced as part of this mentorship program. Participating artists will help develop and apply artwork on the utility boxes, to be installed during the months of August and September. Deadline for submissions is May 25, 2018 at 4 p.m. MST. Street Art Program for Youth This program is designed to provide a hands-on experience to youth who are interested in street art. Guided by a professional lead artist, the program allows up to 14 youth aged 12 to 17 to participate in a 5-week workshop series focused on the history, culture, tools and techniques of urban muralism and street art. The Street Art Program for Youth creates a strong sense of community amongst youth interested in the practice of street art while inspiring them with professional street artists & mentors. The youth who participate in this program work with a lead artist to design, develop and install a large-scale street art mural in the city that they can be proud to call their own. The program will run from July 4th to August 15th, 2018 on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, 4.30 – 7 p.m. at the Historic Holy Angels School, 2105 Cliff St. S.W.
