Lana Whiskeyjack is a multidisciplinary artist from Treaty Six, Saddle Lake Cree Nation, Alberta. Her research, writing, and art explores the paradoxes of what it means to be ayisîyiniw ôta asiskiy (a human being of this earth) within Western society and patriarchal systems. Her creations, range from acrylic and oil paintings to mixed-media and digital storytelling, reflect how she is reclaiming, re-gathering, and remembering her ancestral medicine (sacredness and power).
She is an assistant professor in the Women’s and Gender Studies, Faculty of Arts, University of Alberta, and currently resides in amiskwaciy-wâskahikan (Edmonton, Alberta). Lana has been featured in a documentary, produced and directed by Beth Wishart MacKenzie, 2017, called “Lana Gets Her Talk”. More information please visit: lanawhiskeyjack.ca
