March 26 to April 25, 2009
Opening Reception: March 26, 2009, 7 to 9:30pm
Visual Arts Alberta presents Prism, artwork from artists Laurie MacFayden, Helen Rogers and Liz Sullivan.
Laurie MacFayden’s energetic images are created by throwing around, “directing” the paint to produce landscapes that are joyous, unfettered. Liz Sullivan’s acrylic paintings capture the ephemeral beauty and intricacies of the prairies; intermingling colour, light and texture. A red underpainting provides the foundation and heart of each work. The subsequent layers of vibrant colour and texture result in a personal expression of her connection to the prairies. Helen Rogers’ three dimensional work is bold, vibrant and explores styles from geometric abstract to whimsical realism. Through the use of various materials, such as tiles, stain glass, beads, jewelry, pottery, stones and anything else that “works,” the resulting sculpture is a colourful reflection of fun, whimsy and light.
