Topic:
Art as Social Practice and Community-Based Art

This illustrated and informal discussion will provide a grounding on art practices that engage and involve a range of communities. What is community-based Art? What is art as social practice? And what is the difference? If you have an interest in working with community members as part of your art practice, this Zoom Engagement Session is for you: bring your questions and meet other artists!

Presented by Dick Averns, CARFAC Alberta Engagement Coordinator and an established artist whose practice encompasses working with diverse communities. Dick is also Artistic Director for SITEcPROJECTS, the creative arm of OBAD (Organization for Bipolar Affective Disorders), and won the 2020 City of Calgary Cultural Leaders Legacy Award for Healing Through the Arts.  Program + Development Coordinator Sharon Moore-Foster will be assisting.

Soon the Light Will Burn Our Shade, by Corsa.
A social practice public art project: Recognition… Validation… Reassurance… by Dick Averns

RSVP to sharon@carfacalberta.com by 11am on Saturday March 20. Open to all.
